Crowned best french 2yo in 1995 following his success in the Grand Critérium (Gr.1), then runner-up to Hélissio in the Prix Lupin (Gr.1) in 1996, Loup Solitaire was recognised as a dual purpose sire at stud, a regular proven sire. Even if buyers where not mad about him recently on the ring, Loup Solitaire retired to stud at Haras du Mézeray in Normandy, before moving to Haras du Grand Chesnaie in Mayenne and be very successful there. Indeed, he covered 60 mares in 2011. But in the morning of Thursday 30th June, while he was coming back from the covering shed, and was playing off, jig-jogging towards his stable, he reared up, twisted his leg when landing and fractured his right fore radius. The fracture was opened, and his connection had to decide to put him to sleep.
